Skilltech to Provide ESOL Qualifications
New funding from the CLAN Edinburgh Challenge Fund will soon enable Skilltech to provide qualifications in English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL). Classes in ESOL literacy and communication skills will become an integrated feature of the increasingly popular 12-week training programmes from January 2006 onwards.
The project will offer qualifications in ESOL literacy designed to build effective use of the English language in work and study environments. Each student will receive an individual training plan and where appropriate this will incorporate Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) units called English for Work and Study.
ESOL will form part of an integrated programme that also provides certification in the use of IT and basic employability skills. The programme will continue to prioritise black and minority ethnic people experiencing disadvantages when trying to access education and employment.
