Nisus Seminar at the Gathering

the gatheringAs part of the Gathering, Scotland’s largest Voluntary Sector Fair, Nisus Scotland will be hosting a seminar on the subject of Core IT Skills Enriching Lives.

The seminar will include feedback given by over 80 voluntary organisations in response to our Core IT Skills Survey issued in November, and we will examine current IT related skill gaps and shortages within the Scottish Third Sector .

Craig Mill from Assist-IT will also demonstrate a range of assistive and adaptive technologies available, including low cost and free resources, that can make IT more accessible to people who find standard computing equipment difficult or impossible to use.

The event is designed to be fun and informative and to provoke an informal debate about just how Core IT Skills can enrich lives! It takes place on Tuesday 15th February from 2.30 pm to 4 pm, but places are limited so book now.

For more information about the Gathering or to book a place on the seminar you can visit http://www.gatherscotland.org.uk. Alternatively contact Melissa Grenfell on 0131 555 7928 or email Melissa.Grenfell@nisusscotland.org.uk.

Leaps and Bounds - Studying with FlexIT

The FlexIT project is open to adults with a disability or health concern and their carers.

Anna has been attending the project for just over a year and has successfully achieved several SQA qualifications and is working towards her ECDL. She has had a number of health concerns which have disrupted her working life, however now she is aiming to get back to work full time.

In her own words she enjoys coming to FlexIT due to the “friendly atmosphere, with help available from the tutors, volunteers and students”.

Because of her newly acquired skills, she was recently appointed as a part-time systems clerk. Anna is quick to recommend FlexIT saying that she has “learnt more than I thought I would - this time last year, I couldn’t switch on a computer. I am coming on leaps and bounds!”

If you want more information about the FlexIT course, please call Neil Main on 0131 554 5656 or email Neil.Main@nisusscotland.org.uk.
