The Skilltech project currently has opportunities to provide free training to groups of black and minority ethnic people, refugees and/or asylum seekers in the Edinburgh and Lothian area.

We are especially keen to hear from organisations that work with this client group that may be interested in running a one-day computer course exclusively for their own service users.

Groups may be women only, men only or mixed gender. Provided training is for beneficiaries or service users and participating clients are all over 16 years of age, all materials and training will be made available completely free of charge. Training may take place at the Nisus Scotland premises in Leith or at a venue of preference to the participating group.

If you work with an organisation in the BME community and are interested in referring a group of clients, please contact Jackie or Vicky on 0131 554 5656 as soon as possible. Interested groups are advised to make contact promptly as individual training places are limited.

FlexIT Continue to Develop New Opportunities

After the summer break, students of FlexIT (the Nisus project that offers flexible and accessible training specifically for adults with a disability or health concern and their carers), have restarted with even more enthusiasm than usual.

Our students have clearly missed the classes during the break between Lynne Norris leaving and the new co-ordinator Neil Main, starting in August.

New developments this term include FlexIT classes now taking place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the introduction of PC Passport, the new SQA qualification. We also have spaces for our free Literacy and Numeracy class, offered with support from CLAN Edinburgh, which is held on a Friday morning.

If you are interested in this class or any other aspect of the FlexIT project, please call Neil on 0131 555 7927 or Collette on 0131 555 7925 for further details.

The FlexIT team would like to welcome new students who have joined the project this term, and wish every success to all students with their studies!
