Success for First Skilltech Trainees
The first Skilltech course has now come to a successful
finish! Four students have already commenced employment in
fields as diverse as retail, catering, computer programming
and finance. Another student has begun a three-month work
placement in a research role with the Scottish Executive
and is also looking forward to starting a Post Graduate Diploma
at Napier University early in the
autumn.
A total of thirteen students participated in the first Skilltech
course, seven students have already attained their ECDL (European
Computer Driving Licence) and most of the remaining students
have now completed SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority)
units. Several of the students have already started working
towards more advanced computer qualifications and our continued
aftercare
programme will allow trainees to continue learning through
remote study
opportunities until December 2004.
Skilltech’s first trainees have made remarkable progress,
having acquired recognised computer qualifications, improved
communication skills and greater confidence in using and
understanding the English language. On leaving the course,
trainees have reported feeling more equipped to access the
local job market
having developed CVs, job search skills and improved interview
techniques.

In additional to the home study options available, we are
also able to offer ongoing support in the form of employment
guidance tailored to each individual’s
personal career goals. Thanks to the new ‘Employment
Links’ service at Nisus Scotland, we can provide tailored
support and help source paid employment and work placement
opportunities.
The next Skilltech 12-week course is set to begin in mid-September,
and there are still places available on the Skilltech Summer

The Summer School provides a series of free one-day courses
available in a range of IT related topics and are suitable
for beginners to advanced learners.
