Edinburgh Women’s Training Course (EWT) trainee Jeanette
Paton is halfway through her work placement with Lothian
Buses Plc. The placement involves experience of two departments:
Accounts and Sales.
Feedback from her supervisors has been excellent and Jeanette
states her confidence and IT skills have blossomed during
this experience of office work. Like all EWT trainees she
will be well placed for seeking employment in July when she
leaves
the course.

Low-cost Introduction to ECDL!
In addition to the traditional European Computer Driving
Licence (ECDL) Quaytech Training is offering a new
British Computer Society qualification: the BCS Level
1 Certificate.
Quaytech will offer BCS 1 in a self-study package,
at the introductory cost of £75.00 to voluntary
sector employees.
BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users is designed to
give an initial overview of computer use for candidates
wishing to gain a qualification. It is made up of three
units:
- Concepts of Information Technology
- Using the Computer
and Managing Files
- Information and Communication
These units map directly to the 3 corresponding modules
in the original Core ECDL qualification. It is therefore
possible for students to upgrade to the Core ECDL at
a later date.
Research suggests that the average employee spends
38 minutes a day solving their own and other people’s
computer problems. The ECDL addresses nearly 80% of
the computer skill gaps people say they waste time
on!
If you are interested in gaining BCS1, or the Core
and Advanced ECDL qualifications Quaytech
offers, please contact Melissa on 0131 554 5656.

an email.
