New Training Opportunities for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and BME People

Nisus Scotland has secured funding to deliver an IT training and personal development programme open to asylum seekers, refugees and Black and Minority Ethnic people in Edinburgh and Lothian. The project, called Skilltech, is now in receipt of funding from the Community Fund and the European Social Fund.

Skilltech will be delivered in partnership with Skillnet Edinburgh and course activity will mainly take place at the Nisus Scotland premises in Leith. Skilltech will provide two main training programmes including a series of dedicated 12-week courses providing certified computer qualifications, job search, communication skills and English language support. In addition, the project will offer short non-certified IT courses made available through the Skilltech Summer School.

Course recruitment will happen throughout February and March with the first 12-week course running in April. Uniquely, applicants will not be restricted by length of residency, employment status or time spent claiming benefits.

Anyone wanting more information about Skilltech or application procedures can call Jackie Moore at Nisus Scotland on 0131 554 5656 or send an email.

We are currently recruiting new staff to help deliver this project: please visit the Nisus Scotland Jobs & Careers Section.
