Honourable Lesley Hinds Lord Provost of
Edinburgh awarded Edinburgh Womens Training Course
and SummIT trainees their certificates at a graduation ceremony
at the City Chambers held on Wednesday 2 July Graduates
have
either completed a full academic year with EWTC or 12 weeks with
SummIT. EWTC and SummIT are both
projects under the Nisus umbrella.
The event also marked the rebranding of the
organisation and its new name. The organisation's new name
will be Nisus Scotland,
from nisus, the Latin word for effort in striving towards a goal.
"The
name sums up what the organisation offers our clients - a chance
to strive towards their own personal goals, and allows us to attract
more men to our services who were previously put off by our name," said
centre director Susan Godfrey.
The Centre
was founded in 1986 as The Edinburgh Women's Training Centre
by the then Edinburgh District Council. Jointly funded by the
European Social Fund, the project has survived funding cuts
and threats to its survival to maintain its IT skills vocational
training to unemployed and socially disadvantaged people. |
Speeches
were made by Councillor Lorna Shiels, (a recent recruit to
the Nisus Scotland Board of Directors), Iris McMillan, (Chair
od Nisus Scotlands Board of Directors), Susan Godfrey, (Director
of Nisus Scotland), The Right Honorable Lesley Hinds, Lord
Provost of Edinburgh and graduating trainee Carolann Roshier.

After the
ceremony and photo session a buffet allowed graduating trainees,
trainees guests, work placement providers, funders,
staff and other attending supporters of Nisus Scotland to
mingle and celebrate the event. |
