EWT
The Edinburgh Women’s Training Course runs twice a year starting in August and January.
The course runs for three and a half days per week over 20 weeks and provides training in computer applications, communications and numeracy. All subject areas are certificated and offer nationally recognised Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) units and the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
The course is specifically designed for women with no, low, foreign or outdated qualifications who want to gain computer skills, improve their communication skills, gain employment or move onto further education.
To make the course accessible, assistance is provided with childcare and travel expenses which will not affect any benefit you may be receiving.
Course Content
- SQA units in information technology, communication and numeracy.
- Core level European Computer Driving Licence.
- Advanced level ECDL.
- Careers Guidance: throughout the course impartial and confidential help and advice is available on a range of career related issues including: identification of goals and suitable careers, help in decision making and CV advice.
- Personal Development: this is fully integrated into the course and includes: interpersonal & communication skills, self-confidence and self-esteem building, personal presentation and effectiveness.
- Work Placement: a five week work placement completes the course. This provides invaluable experience which reinforces and develops the skills learned during the course.
- Job Search and Job Maintenance: On completion of the course we can provide guidance and assistance to trainees looking for employment.

The course in delivered in a friendly and supportive environment. For many women, the course is the first step after a long period away from work or training.
